OUT AND ABOUT IN HOUT BAY
Beautiful and serene Hout Bay is an actual bay with a working harbour and thriving market, as well as a lovely beach.
HOUT BAY HARBOUR MARKET
This market is extremely popular – especially for food and especially on Friday nights. We often board our guests into the Sprinter and send them off for Friday night dinner and shopping. The food stalls represent food from all over Africa as well as abroad, and most of the offerings are way above average.
There are also wonderful craft beers on tap and, of course, some great South African wines. The market is open all weekend but only open at night on Fridays. If possible, we suggest you arrive no later than 5:30pm as it gets very crowded and communal seating is limited. If you arrive later, the crowd is welcoming and friendly and someone always scoots over. Step out onto the patio, where there is often available seating as well as a stunning view of the harbour and Chapman’s Peak Drive across the water.
HOUT BAY WALKING TOURS and ACTIVITIES
We also book guided walking tours of Hangberg, the local village above the harbour, as well as hiking trails around the peninsular. Please ask for the activities brochure when you enquire. Avid cyclists may rent bicycles and there are a host of water activities down at Hout Bay beach and harbour.
